NEW homes in Poynton are being built under the supervision of an award-winning site manager celebrating a decade of working for Elan Homes. Wayne Aron has been appointed the site manager at Hazelfields, on Hazelbadge Road.

A total of 133 new homes are being built across 7.47 acres of a 20.45 acre site, with the balance taken up by open space and woodland.

“I started out as a bricklayer more than 25 years ago before becoming a section foreman, general foreman and then site manager,” Wayne explained.

“I joined Elan 10 years ago in 2013 and have won two Pride in the Job Quality Awards in that time. It’s nice to have that external validation, but more important that our customers love living in their new homes. I take pride in my work and enjoy working for Elan – we have a strong team who work well together.”

Wayne is currently overseeing around 30 people working on site at Hazelfields.

“We’re making good progress with the first few homes. They’re at first lift with the brickwork, which is from the damp proof course to scaffold height,” Wayne added. “The first homes should be ready to move into in the autumn.”

The Hazelfields development will offer 93 private sale properties, including one and two-bedroom apartments, plus three to five-bedroom homes.

There will also be 40 affordable homes – 26 properties available for rent and 14 available for shared ownership.

Along with building new homes, Elan will invest almost £1.8 million in the local community.

This includes more than £750,000 worth of highways improvements, with funding allocated towards Poynton Relief Road, a bus stop opposite Hilton Grove and cycle lane provision. A car park will also be created on site to provide extra school parking.

Almost £662,000 will be shared between local schools, with more than £130,000 allocated for the development of Priorsleigh Medical Centre and McIlvride Medical Centre. Sports facilities at Deva Close Playing Fields and Poynton Leisure Centre will benefit from almost £120,000 worth of investment. Further funding has been allocated towards Kerridge Hill Nature Reserve, plus allotments and community gardens.

Elan will also provide a play area within the Hazelfields development for younger residents to enjoy. Trees will be retained at the centre of the site, along with a woodland on the boundary, providing a semi-rural setting for the homes.
