The summer is here, and we are outside more than ever. While you might be satisfied that your garden is tidy and useable, it could be leaving you feeling uninspired. It might be the right time to give your garden an update that will help you love this space again. Here we offer some neat tips and tricks to help you give your garden some TLC and a hint of style.

Build a fire pit

Something is fascinating about a fire. We love gathering around the flames and talking with friends, family, and neighbours. There are a host of fire pits for sale that will add an instant touch of flair and style. However, it is easy to create your pit with some elbow grease and a touch of creative genius in reality. It won’t be long before you are posting your high-quality pics to Instagram and annoying, we mean inspiring, your social media community.

An outdoor kitchen

Instead of a firepit, you might want to create a whole outside entertainment area for your evening get-togethers. A high-quality barbeque built into an area with a herb garden and maybe even an outdoor sink can revolutionise how you use your garden. Add to this some fantastic outdoor dining furniture, and your garden will impress.

If all this sounds like it might cost a lot, you might want to investigate the many ways you can reuse old pallets to create this entertainment space. You can quickly transform the pallets into furniture for the minimum cost.

Paint plant pots

Updating and refreshing your garden does not need to be a considerable landscaping task. While you might want to dig areas up and put in new features, you can add some flair with a touch of paint. Terracotta pots can become a little dull after a while, and talking to them with a paintbrush is a neat trick for adding some pizzazz to your garden. Let your creativity flow and design each one to have a different pattern. You can do anything from block colours to spots and zigzags.

Add some lighting

Your garden is not that different to your home. Light and shade create the sense of beauty and depth needed to make the most of the style you are creating.

You can take all sorts of approaches to lighting your garden, from the fun to the elegant. Lighting will set the tone for your garden more than any other feature, so invest wisely. If you go for colourful fairy lights, you will appear fun-loving, while a faux lamp post will appear grander.

Whatever you choose, adding lighting to your garden will extend your get-togethers and parties into the night. It is definitely worth looking around as it can be an inexpensive way to add a touch of magic to your outdoor area.

What about a pond?

A water feature is often the star act in a garden. While you can achieve this style with a simple trip to the garden centre to buy something ornamental, there is a lot of fun and childlike adventure to be had in building the perfect pond. From researching how to create the best water area for the plants you need and then finding the perfect rocks to edge and add interest, there is an exciting project to fill a weekend.

If you are fully committed, you can work out how to encourage wildlife to come live with you in your garden. From frogs to fish to dragonflies and birds, the local fauna loves a pond. Creating the best pond ecosystem is a great project for children who love getting their hands dirty. Remember to put the appropriate safety features in place – such as a grid across the top – to prevent any accidents.

Create new pathways

Sometimes our gardens become uninspiring because there is only one way to travel through them. Garden landscaping at its best is about creating zones and places to explore. Therefore, thinking about how your garden is broken into zones with paths can do a lot to make what you have already feel more appealing.

Power wash!

If all this sounds like a lot of hard work and you just want to dust off some of the grime of previous years, get yourself a power wash. Often, our paths can become dull and the once white gravel grey. Without just a couple of hours of effort, you can revolutionise the feel of your garden. Then, you can settle back in your reclining chair and read for the rest of the weekend. Perfect.
