Forgetful Brits lose 2M Worth of Possessions when Moving House
Moving house is considered one of the most stressful times in a person's life and trying to juggle everything during a global pandemic can only make things more challenging. According to a recent analysis by Share to Buy, Britons lose around 2.37 million lost items each year when moving to a new house. This means the average person in the UK is losing up to £202 simply for being forgetful!
Having collected multiple data, Share to Buy have calculated the average replacement costs of the most commonly misplaced items during a move:
Top Misplaced Item |
Average Cost |
Ladders |
£69 |
Plant pots in the garden |
£15 |
Keys |
£8 |
Money that was hidden in a ‘safe spot’ |
£110 |
As a nation, it seems lockdown and working from home had made us slightly more forgetful as further research shows the following:
- 5 in 10 people admit to losing around two personal belongings a week.
- Brits spend roughly 140 days of their lives searching for them.
- Smartphones (40%) are the most commonly mislaid item around the house
- Face masks are in the top ten more commonly mislaid item at 14%
- Around 12% of lost items almost always turn up in the fridge or the bin.
The release is attached with more information. I hope the above findings will be something that your readers will find interesting especially with the recent announcement of the new 5% mortgage scheme and stamp duty holiday extension.
