The Overlooked Areas Worth Considering When Renovating
When you’re planning home renovations, it’s only natural that your focus will be drawn to the big, eye-catching parts of the home. But it’s fair to say that some of the more out-of-the-way, overlooked areas might be in need of attention, too. Moreover, getting these parts of the home into order might lead to knock-on benefits for everywhere else.
Making Better Use of Forgotten Spaces
For the most part, forgotten recesses are best used for storage. Here we’re talking about awkward spaces beneath and above the stairs, and loft space that can’t be used for any other purpose.
Making efficient use of these areas, with the help of bespoke furniture, might allow you to more easily keep the rest of the home clear.
At the same time, there are other purposes for which we might use certain spaces. A neglected corner of the living room, for example, might be employed as a study area, or a reading nook.
Giving Hallways and Entrance Areas More Attention
You might think of hallways and entrance areas as merely functional. After all, you aren’t going to spend any significant length of time in these places, and so they might not be considered a priority. But this would probably be a mistake.
When you move through a hallway or entrance area, you set a tone. When these spaces look tired or dilapidated, then so too will the rest of the home. Replacing flooring and lighting here can be a simple way of lifting the standard, and impressing guests and would-be buyers.
Remembering the Exterior During Renovations
Similarly, you might neglect the exterior of your home, because it’s the interior that you’ll spend your time in. But small tweaks to the outside can improve the durability and look of your property. Re-rendering the home, or improving certain features, like your garage doors, can have a big impact on kerb appeal.
In many cases, you can improve the look of your exterior by simply adding a few inexpensive potted plants here and there, and by tidying up a little. You don’t need to spend a significant amount of money to get great results!
Improving Storage and Utility Areas
As well as converting unused spaces into storage areas, you might think about how you can get more from the spaces that are already being used for storage. Space-efficient floor-to-ceiling shelves, and durable, stackable boxes, can both make a big difference.
