Local housebuilder Barratt Developments Yorkshire East has raised an impressive £45,000 in support of its 2023 charity of the year, Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF), with £10,000 to be donated to Sepsis UK in honour of the division’s former Managing Director, Paul Newman.

Over 300 guests gathered at York Racecourse on Friday 6th October for ‘The Red Ball’, the annual charity event hosted by the local housebuilder aimed to raise funds and awareness for the CHSF. Charitable donations were raised through ticket and table sales, a raffle, and a silent auction.

CHSF works tirelessly to provide medical equipment, family support, and innovative solutions to enhance the lives of those affected by congenital heart disease (CHD). The partnership with Barratt Developments Yorkshire East aims to support the heart, mind, family, and future of patients with CHD in the region.

CHSF's mission aligns perfectly with Barratt Developments Yorkshire East's commitment to making a positive impact within the local communities in which they build with an aim to raise significant funds to drive forward essential projects and initiatives.

This year's fundraising goal includes providing vital medical equipment such as INR (International Normalised Ratio) kits and Kardia mobile devices. These tools allow heart patients to conveniently test their blood and heart rhythms at home, reducing the need for hospital appointments and alleviating stress for themselves and their families.

The charity is particularly close to people’s hearts at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East as receptionist Danielle Tupman’s made the charity of the year nomination due to her own experiences with the organisation.

Her son Oliver was born with a severe heart condition, which was initially overlooked by doctors and resulted in him receiving life-saving surgery just in time, thanks to the CHSF’s support. Representatives from the charity provided emotional assistance by attending every one of Oliver’s appointments, donated equipment, and ensured both parents could stay with Oliver during his treatment.

His progress since birth is inspiring, and the family remains grateful to the charity for their unwavering support and care throughout this difficult time.

Daniel Smith, Managing Director of Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, commented: “We’re delighted to have been able to welcome a whole host of our suppliers, sub-contractors, consultants, solicitors and land agents for another fantastic evening of fundraising at York Racecourse.

“This is an extremely important annual evening for the Barratt Developments Yorkshire East charity committee and each year we’re warmed by our guests' generosity to our selected charity of the year, which is close to our hearts. We have raised an amazing sum of money for the Children's Heart Surgery Fund and we give special thanks to everyone who came along and donated to our cause.”
