The first homes at David Wilson Homes’ The Poppies development in Hermitage Lane, Aylesford has now launched. This phase will offer 44 new homes, with 28 three and four-bedroom homes and 16 apartments. Local buyers are actively invited to make an appointment with a member of the sales team to come to the newly launched sales suite, with two show homes launching later this year and the first residents set to move in early 2024.

Named ‘The Poppies’ in a nod to the rich military history in the area, David Wilson Homes is helping maintain Maidstone County’s history of exceeding housebuilding targets by contributing 840 houses to the council’s target of building 17,660 new homes by 2031. The three and four-bedroom homes, from £399,995 will be designed to appeal to a range of households in the area including growing families. The apartments will suit a variety of young professionals, especially those looking to step onto the property ladder.

All homes have been constructed with energy efficiency in mind, including the use of a new ‘eco-brick’, which uses up to 31% less upfront embodied carbon than a standard building brick. Wider measures in place include energy efficient boilers and high levels of insulation, that ensure a David Wilson home is up to 64% cheaper to run than the same sized older home with modern day improvements[1].  The wider development also has 15.9 acres dedicated to open space, comprising of green areas, play parks and biodiversity sections. A network of walkways and cycle paths ensure residents have easy access throughout the development, into Maidstone and beyond. Other wildlife friendly measures include bee-friendly planting, over 11,000 new hedgerows implemented and 162 new trees planted.

Located in between Kent’s biggest town of Maidstone and the village of Aylesford, The Poppies is extremely well served by public transport and easy road use. The local railway station is within walking distance, offering connections to Ashford International and London Victoria. For road use, the development leads to the M20, allowing easy access to M26, M25 and the M23 for Dover for trips across the continent. The development is also less than a mile away from Maidstone Hospital, and David Wilson Homes encourages NHS workers to make use of its Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme[2]. The scheme allows workers from a range of backgrounds - such as NHS workers, teachers and those who work in the police - to receive £1,000 contribution from us for every £20,000 spent on a property until December 2023.

Natalie Perry, Sales and Marketing Director for David Wilson Kent, comments: “The Poppies has been carefully designed with family living in mind, and with the Aylesford area being in the heart of Kent, the amenities and transport links will suit a host of buyers. Our commitment to family living also goes further than the homes themselves, with a primary school, medical centre and a plethora of parks all proposed for the site over the next few years. We have also gone one step further for local buyers, in delivering 28 affordable apartments which will suit first-time buyers perfectly, boosting our commitment to affordable housing delivery in Kent, as well as our £10m contribution to the local economy”.

David Wilson Homes has committed to investing over £10m into the local economy over the next few years as part of its Section 106 agreement. This will include: £764,400 toward bus services, £27,359 for community learning, £717,616 toward healthcare, £1,300,000 for highway works, £41,460 for libraries, £1,812,720 toward outdoor sports, £3,462,498 for primary education, £3,141,828 for secondary education, and finally, £11,315 toward youth services.
