Wealden District Council’s Planning Committee has greenlit two new Barratt David Wilson Homes developments in Hailsham, which were granted approval on Thursday 22nd June. The schemes, named Cuckoo Fields, are located off Station Road, and will provide 372 new homes, of which 35% will be affordable.

Cuckoo Fields will form part of Barratt David Wilson Southern Counties’ 500-home delivery plan for Hailsham, where the housebuilder is already building its Ersham Park development off Ersham Road.

Cuckoo Fields has been designed to complement its natural surroundings and enhance biodiversity, and will include over 15 acres of green open space, including a multitude of play areas for children. Woven throughout the development are walking and cycle links leading back into Hailsham and connecting into the existing Cuckoo Trail.

With construction due to begin in late August this year, Cuckoo Fields will deliver a mixture of homes to suit all budgets and lifestyles, ranging from one to five-bedroom homes. Each property will be built to the highest specification, with every house incorporating a minimum of two photovoltaic (PV) panels, and built-in electric vehicle charging points. Buyers will be able to view the show home from early 2024.

As part of the planning approvals, Barratt David Wilson Southern Counties has committed to invest over £7m into the local community as part of its Section 106 agreement and Community Infrastructure Levy payments, which will be used to support local primary and secondary education, youth services and other essential services in Hailsham.

Kimberley Benson, Sales and Marketing Director for David Wilson Southern Counties, comments: “We are very pleased to have secured detailed permission for Cuckoo Fields, which will enable us to continue our much-needed new homes delivery in Hailsham. This major scheme is set to provide essential housing for the region, alongside helping to fund essential community facilities and public amenities, and we look forward to getting boots on site and beginning work.”
