Dandara has enlisted the help of John Boyns Carpentry to inspire school children in East Malling to learn more about the nation’s history to mark the Coronation of King Charles III.

The Maidstone carpentry firm donated a hand-crafted book hut to St James the Great Academy and the housebuilder stocked it with history books, along with classic and contemporary novels.

Following the construction of the book hut pupils got creative and decorated the hut with their own regal designs to celebrate the historic event in Westminister Abbey on Saturday 6th May.

Louise Norman, Head of Sales at Dandara South East, commented: “We are so impressed by how much work the children put into decorating the book hut – it looks amazing. We would also like to thank John Boyns and the team for donating the book hut, it is an incredible piece of craftmanship.

“Books are a window into other worlds, and we hope the children will enjoy spending time away from their phones and laptops and settling down with a great story – whether about a fictional character or a true account of the lives of Kings or Queens from the past.”

Tamasin Springett, Principal at St James the Great Academy, added: “We would like to thank Dandara and John Boyns Carpentry for their generous donations – the book hut is already a real focal point for the children and they are looking forward to reading the books and swapping them with each other.

“Reading is not just beneficial for a child’s academic performance, but offers a great opportunity for them to be able to bond with each other and talk about the stories they have read and the facts they have learned. There has been lots of excitement about the book hut and they loved painting it.”

John Boyns of John Boyns Carpentry in Maidstone made the book hut free of charge for the school. He said: “This is the second book hut we have made for Dandara in the South East and it is lovely to see how imaginative the children have been – both huts look very different and have far exceeded our expectations. It was great to take part in such an inspiring project and heart-warming to hear how much the children are enjoying the new addition to their classroom.”

Dandara is currently selling a collection of three and four bedroom homes at The Sweetings in East Malling, with prices starting from £439,000.
