Established humanitarian charity, the British Red Cross, has received a £500 donation ahead of the festive season, from 5 star Homebuilder Barratt Developments Yorkshire West. The British Red Cross is the UK based asset of the International Red Cross Movement - a worldwide humanitarian aid network which works to provide aid and support to people before, during and after a crisis.  The organisation works in collaboration with its teams in 192 countries across the world. As a result of their overseas connections, the charity is in a unique position when it comes to responding to a crisis based in the UK or overseas. The British Red Cross launched its Ukraine Crisis Appeal after the start of the conflict in March, which has helped to alleviate some of the devastating impact that the conflict has had on millions of people overseas.

Donations have furthered both the improvement of water access for ten million people, and 11.7million people have received relief assistance for basic needs including hygiene items, water, food, medicine, blankets, stoves and generators. In the UK, the charity has supported more than 10,000 refugees from Ukraine and has provided £1 million worth of financial support.

Barratt Developments Yorkshire Wests’ donation will directly support the people of Ukraine, providing tools and equipment that will help people to access supplies they need to live safely. The British Red Cross has previously supplied those affected with life-saving equipment, such as fire blankets, sleeping mats and chlorine tablets. With just £10 being enough to help 5 people keep healthy for a month, through the provision of a hygiene kit, the donation is sure to go a long way. Kerry Threadgill, Regional Fundraiser Manager at The British Red Cross said:

“We would like to thank Barratt Homes for their kind donation. We have already supported millions of people affected by the conflict with food, water and medical care. Our staff and volunteers have also been welcoming people arriving here from Ukraine – providing them emotional and practical help when they need it most. This donation will help us continue to support people affected by the conflict.”

Ian Ruthven, Managing Director of Barratt Developments Yorkshire West said: “We are pleased to offer support to The British Red Cross to help them provide direct support for the people of Ukraine through the Ukraine Crisis Appeal. In such a traumatic time of ongoing conflict, the charity is working hard to help those in crisis who need it the most.”
