National property consultancy Carter Jonas secured planning consent on behalf of GCR Camprop Eight Ltd to provide 40 serviced apartments on Queen Edith’s Way in south east Cambridge. The consent follows an appeal, allowed on 27 September, following refusal by Cambridge City Council to grant planning permission.

In addition to the apartments, the planning provision allows for hard and soft landscaping and a basement car park.

The appeal process considered the merits of the development proposals with particular regard to the design quality of the proposals, the impact on the amenity of the neighbouring area, and provision of an appropriate level of internal and external community facilities.

The Planning Inspector found that the proposal would not have a harmful effect on the character and appearance of the area, would not cause harm to the amenity of the area, would not conflict with the Cambridge Local Plan and was acceptable in all other respects.

Carter Jonas provided design witness and planning witness services to the appellants during the appeal process.

Matt Hare, Partner at Carter Jonas in Cambridge commented,Cambridge has a significant need for additional visitor accommodation, to support both the business and leisure sectors. The location of the appeal scheme, close to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, is such that the scheme will support the business sector and visitors to Addenbrookes Hospital. We are pleased that by securing this permission on appeal we have been able to assist our client in partially addressing that wider need.’

Kash Lais Director of GCR Camprop Eight Ltd commented,Cambridge is a global leader in the Life Science sector but has a need for vital investment in the ecosystem in order to be competitive with our US counterparts. The Camprop Team are delighted to have been able to contribute to that process.

In achieving this success, Carter Jonas worked alongside PIP Architects and Landmark Chambers.
