An inclusive village community centre in Whitley has received a generous £1,000 donation from 5 star homebuilder Barratt Developments Yorkshire West.

Whitley Community Association, based south of Dewsbury, received the donation after applying for Barratt Development’s Community Fund, an initiative which sees a different charity in West and South Yorkshire receive a donation of up to £1,000 every month.

Based at Whitley Community Centre, the charity aims to bring together residents from the surrounding rural areas to boost morale and improve sociability through lunches, social clubs and events. The group are currently raising funds to install a second emergency exit to allow disabled visitors to access the building safely. The donation from Barratt Developments will give the Whitley Community Association a much deserved cash boost.

Jacqueline King, Treasurer of Whitley Community Association said: “We’re all so happy that our cause has been selected for this month’s £1,000 donation from Barratt Developments Yorkshire West. With only one emergency exit at the centre, it restricts the number of people we can host. We have a significant number of disabled residents and the donation means we are closer to installing a second accessible exit, which will really improve the events we run here. We’re grateful to Barratt for its generous support.”

Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, which includes the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, regularly supports the communities in which it builds and makes monthly donations to organisations that improve the quality of life for those living in West and South Yorkshire.

Martin Purdy, Commercial Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West added: “Barratt Developments Yorkshire West is dedicated to supporting the communities in which it builds to improve the quality of their lives, and that is exactly what The Whitley Community Association does. We’re very proud to support The Whitley Community Association.”
