Pupils from Darfield have helped name Barratt Homes’ new development in the village.

Local homebuilder, Barratt Homes Yorkshire West, has revealed the name of its brand new development on Pitt Street in Darfield after enlisting the help of pupils from Outwood Primary Academy. Netherwood Bank is the winning name chosen for the new 100-home development after being put forward by 12 students on the school council. The inspiration behind the name pays homage to the local area and points to Netherwood Country Park, a nearby beauty spot for countryside walks.

As a thank you for taking part in the development naming activity, Barratt Homes Yorkshire West has donated a £100 voucher to the school for it to spend on education supplies.

Tim Bower, Principal at Outwood Primary Academy commented: “The students really enjoyed coming up with names for the new community in Darfield. It was a fun and creative exercise that helped the students to think outside of their usual curriculum and we’re very grateful to Barratt Homes Yorkshire West for the generous voucher.”

The school council said: “It was really fun to work together to come up with a name for the development of new homes where our peers may live. We can’t wait to see our name on signs around the village.”

Sam Wood, Sales Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, added: “We were really impressed with the names provided by the students and are pleased to have chosen a name that connects our development to the village of Darfield. It’s important to us to support the communities in which we build, so to have the school help us with a name is wonderful. We hope this is the start of a long lasting, working relationship with Outwood Primary Academy.
