Over the last five years the need for foodbanks in the UK has increased by 128%, with 302,905 emergency food parcels distributed in the South East of England alone[1]. To help people in crisis in this region, Dandara Southern has donated 224.55kg to the Waterside Foodbank which is part of The Trussell Trust network of Foodbanks.

Based in Southampton, close to a number of the housebuilders developments, the foodbank is vital for local people in need, with around 400 visitors per month. Thanks to support from the local community and businesses, the Waterside Foodbank Project now also manages a shopfront, where great quality second hand clothing is sold at affordable prices.

Jan Hayter, Project Co-ordinator at the Waterside Foodbank Project, comments: “As more people in the community turn to foodbanks, we are incredibly grateful to companies like Dandara that allow us to provide people in crisis with emergency food and support. Thanks to Dandara’s generous donation, we were able to provide 695 meals to those who needed them in the local community. We would like to say a big thank you to the staff at Dandara for all their support.”

Nicki Dennis, Head of Sales at Dandara Southern, comments: “We were made aware of the Waterside Foodbank Project as one of my colleagues regularly volunteers there, and we were more than happy to contribute to such an important cause. The last few years has seen a large increase foodbank usage and, as we are building a number of developments throughout the region, we wanted to show our support. We hope our donation helped bring some relief to those in the local community who need it.”

The Waterside Foodbank Project can be found on Hampton Lane (SO45 1XA) and is open from 10am – 4pm Tuesdays and Fridays for those requiring its services. For further information about the Waterside Foodbank Project please visit https://waterside.foodbank.org.uk/.
