With the number of first-time buyers reaching a record high in 2021 and up 35% from the previous year, more people are seeking advice than ever before on how to take their first step onto the property ladder[1]. As inflation and living costs rise – particularly in the capital – it’s no wonder that buyers are looking for help to navigate the ins and outs of homeownership.

Earlier this week, Barratt London hosted a ‘London First Time Buyers’ webinar where attendees were able to listen to experts discuss tips and tricks for getting on London’s property ladder and discover the latest schemes available from Barratt London.

Those tuning into the session heard from industry specialists including independent property expert Kate Faulkner and Torc24 mortgage specialist Mark Dobbs. The experts covered ways for buyers to make sure their finances look as streamlined as possible, plus how to find the best value property and the benefits of buying in a regeneration area.

First-time buyers heard what the best questions are to ask sales advisors when viewing a property, learned about the government schemes available to them such as Help to Buy, and discussed ways to choose their developer with care to ensure a high level of quality and service.

Attendees also found out more about Barratt London’s bespoke packages available for first-time buyers, to help make the purchasing process as hassle-free as possible, covering everything from furnishings to stamp duty.

With just over one year left of the Help to Buy loan, Barratt London has so far helped over 3,330 first time buyers achieve their dreams of owning a property in the capital through the government scheme since it was introduced in 2013.

Ed McCoy, Sales & Marketing Director for Barratt West London, said: "Help to Buy has been a real lifeline for so many young buyers stuck in generation rent who would otherwise not have been able to afford a deposit. We're expecting a busy year for first-time buyers who will be keen to take advantage of Help to Buy before the scheme ends next year."

Ed continues: “We are always looking for ways to make the house buying process easier for customers, and the majority of our sales at the moment are to first-time buyers. We hope that this webinar helped those who might have been stuck renting or living with parents to gain the knowledge they need to climb that first rung on the London property ladder.”
