No one enjoys feeling too hot or too cold, and when you’re living space never feels just the right temperature, it can be frustrating. While you can always put on an extra sweater or take off a layer when you’re feeling too warm, if you want to have better climate control in your home for a more comfortable living environment, consider the suggestions below.

Improve the insulation

One of the reasons you might be experiencing colder temperatures in your home, particularly during the winter, is because your insulation is old or of poor quality. A properly insulated property not only helps you to control the climate in your living environment more effectively, but it can also save you a lot of money in energy bills. Bad insulation can be one of the biggest causes for households to waste energy – often feeling as though they need to leave the heating on for longer because they are losing so much thanks to poor insulation. This is always worth checking if you have noticed your energy bills are high, or that your home can’t seem to retain heat.

Smart thermostat

Another effective way of improving climate control in your home is having a smart thermostat installed. This technology again can be a great way to help you save money and reduce your energy wastage, as well as allow you to find the perfect temperature that you’re comfortable at. Once you have set this temperature, your smart thermostat will heat your rooms to this point every time. Most smart thermostats can be controlled by apps on your smartphone too, so if you do accidentally leave the heating on when you leave the house, you can switch it off remotely.

Double or triple glazing

Most homes do have double glazing, particularly if they are a modern build. However, this is worth checking as this is another reason why you might be finding your home colder than most. If the issue isn’t your window glazing, make sure that the seals around your windows aren’t damaged to avoid leaks and losing heat.

Fans and air conditioning units

If your issue is that your home feels sweltering in the summer months, you may want to consider having ceiling fans installed, purchasing desk/floor fans, or even portable cooling options to use temporarily during the heatwave. While these might not be a long-term solution, they will certainly help you feel more comfortable when temperatures do rise. Shutting the drapes and blinds can also help deflect heat from the interior of your homes in the summertime, too.

Switch to LED lighting

This is a relatively small change but can help to make a difference, as light bulbs can emit a lot of heat as well as use a lot of energy. LED bulbs are much more energy-efficient, and they stay cooler than other types of bulbs which reduces the temperature in your home, too.

If you want to have better climate control in your living space, consider the suggestions above and see what a difference these improvements can make.
