Research by the estate agent comparison site, GetAgent.co.uk, has revealed one surprising feature that could help sell your home as harvest season approaches.

Whether you’re a farmer or a green-fingered homeowner, late September and early October usually signify the start of the harvest season before the colder winter months.

GetAgent found that for 77% of homebuyers, the idea of a garden with a fruit tree or vegetable patch is an appealing prospect, providing the opportunity to grow their own fruit and veg throughout the year, as well as the ability to partake in their own personal harvest season.

For those selling a home this harvest season, the addition of a veg patch or fruit tree could be the extra factor needed to help stand out from the crowd. GetAgent’s research also found that just over half (51%) of UK homebuyers would opt to buy a property with a fruit tree or veg patch over a home without one.

What’s more, it could help sellers harvest a higher price for their homes. A quarter of homebuyers (24%) went as far as to say that they would even pay more for a home if it offered a vegetable patch or fruit tree compared to one that didn’t.

Founder and CEO of GetAgent.co.uk, Colby Short, commented:

“If there’s one thing lockdown has taught us, it’s the importance of outdoor space and how we use it to better our lives. For many, the garden is more than a place to relax - across the country amateur gardeners are producing some outstanding fruit and veg from the comfort of their gardens.

This self-sufficiency came into its own during the pandemic because of lockdown restrictions and panic buying. As apparent Brexit-related problems have recently caused a shortage of stock on supermarket shelves, the ability to grow our own food continues to appeal strongly to the majority of homebuyers.

Not only could a fruit tree or veg patch improve your chances of selling, it could also see you sell for more to the right buyer.”

Survey of 1,03 recent UK homebuyers (last 6 months) carried out by GetAgent.co.uk via consumer research platform Find Out Now (20th August 2021).
