A new hotel booking platform is backing the Great British seaside as the tourism sector begins to recover from its darkest period in living memory.

Digital travel innovator hoo is dedicating its marketing effort to promote the much-loved seaside town of Great Yarmouth - the famous resort in Norfolk, renowned for its long sandy beach.

hoo’s campaign can be seen here and champions what awaits visitors to the iconic location. It stars Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK alumni Ellie Diamond, features a bright montage of visitors having a dip in the sea, munching on chips, and playing arcade games.

The campaign follows on from hoo’s pop-up travel agency in Shoreditch, London, which encouraged younger locals to reconsider their plans to jet abroad, in favour of staying on UK shores.

Co-Founder of hoo, Adrian Murdock commented:

“Before the pandemic, British seaside destinations were generally experiencing steady economic growth and Great Yarmouth was no different, with nearly half a million visitors a year bringing £116m into the local economy. However, the impact of COVID in 2020 changed all that, with a 56% drop in total annual spend at these coastal resorts.”

“This past year has been a truly savage time for hoteliers, but there are better times ahead. We want to push as many eyes as possible to our sunny seasides - with Great Yarmouth being a particular favourite.  Holidaymakers should look again at these places - Great Yarmouth is cool - not just for this summer but also in future years as well. We hope our campaign helps play a small part in the recovery.”

hoo’s Global Marketing Director, Duncan McKenna, added:

“Our motto is ‘upgrade your experience’ and this summer we have a bevvy of activities which takes this to the next level. Launching a hotel booking brand during this time has never been so challenging and yet so rewarding.

hoo is a marketplace where hotels and travellers are brought together to reach a deal that works on both sides.

Once you’ve found your perfect hotel, you can book it at the list price or try an offer that suits you. You can make offers on a limitless number of hotels to get the best deals that suit you and once it's accepted, you just make your payment.”
